Cindi’s extensive research before the trip revealed some of the finest places to stay and dine on the tour. One of the highlights was a return trip to the absolutely amazing Castello Delle Serre after 16 years for our 40th anniversary. Salvatore and Antonio Gangale left a lasting impression on us in 2008. We sorely missed greeting the retired Salvatore on this visit but were tickled to rejoin Antonio and recount old stories with his wonderful wife Kaci. They were just as genuine, warm and welcoming as our first visit to the castle.

Another highlight was recommended by Antonio for an intimate and memorable wine tasting and lunch presented by the charming Fabrizio Doveri at the Cantina Doveri in Cortona. We couldn’t leave Fabizio’s quaint cantina without purchasing one of his exceptional bottles of Cortona l’Usciolo Syrah. Fabrizio mentioned to us that l’Usciolo translates to the “Little Door” that is at the base of his wooden wine barrel.
