2022 Utah Trip: The View, Monument Valley
We travelled from the Red Sands Hotel in Torrey to the View Hotel in Monument Valley. Along the way, we discovered and survived the decent down the Moki Dugway along UT 261 into the Valley of the Gods. We had a nice stay at The View Hotel and took a tour of the valley guided by Joseph, a native Navajo (Diné, “The People”) guide. He provided a wealth of historical facts and wonderful stories throughout the tour. My favorite story was the legend of the Navajo Hero Twins in which Changing Women protects her twins from the monster by making footprints in the sand with her fists and fingers. Joseph knelt down and made his own convincing children’s footprints with his hands as he recounted the legend.
